Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ POSTGRADUATE COURSES

HEARST MAGAZINE PARTNERSHIP

Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ Master’s courses are delivered in partnership with Hearst Magazines UK (publishers of Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Esquire magazines and more).

Through a year-long programme of lectures, workshops, mentorship, live briefs, and internships, students gain first-hand insight into how creativity powers some of the UK’s leading media brands. The partnership provides practical experience, professional connections, and inspiration to help the next generation of creatives thrive.

It represents a shared commitment between Hearst and Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ to nurture emerging talent, champion creativity, and build meaningful pathways into the creative industries.

HEARST PARTNERSHIP OUTLINE

Across four weeks, students met senior Hearst professionals from across the business, including editors, creative strategists, sustainability leaders, and directors, for a series of immersive talks exploring creativity, leadership, and brand storytelling.

Led by experts from Hearst’s People Team, the Interview Workshop offers students a practical toolkit for taking the next step in their creative careers empowering students with confidence and insider knowledge.

Students respond to a real-world Hearst brand challenge through a live creative brief. Previous briefs have invited students to develop a licensing pitch for one of Hearst’s publications and then present their creative solutions in person at House of Hearst to the Licensing team and other industry professionals from Hearst.

Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ students respond to real-world creative briefs for a Hearst publication. Working across disciplines—from editorial design and marketing to social media and product development—they are tasked with producing conceptually strong, visually compelling outcomes that reflect the brand’s values and demonstrate an understanding of commercial fashion media.

Six MA students at Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ receive tailored one-to-one mentorship, connecting directly with Hearst professionals to set career goals, gain personalised feedback, expand their networks, and access real-world industry insight. By pairing each student with a mentor aligned to their interests, the scheme helps shape their ambitions while fostering lasting professional connections.

Up to 10 MA students spend an expenses-paid week at the House of Hearst working on a live group design and research brief, supported throughout by Hearst staff. The project offers first-hand experience in responding strategically to a brand brief—developing ideas through research, concepting, and presentation—ending with a final pitch to a panel of Hearst professionals.

An opportunity for up to three MA students to complete a six-day placement across Hearst’s creative and editorial teams. This internship offers real-world, brand-led experience while supporting active projects across key titles. Many alumni noted that this experience significantly strengthened their job applications in the creative industries.

Students gain:

  • Real insight into creative and commercial processes
  • Experience working with a major global media brand
  • Confidence in pitching, project development, and teamwork
  • Professional experience to strengthen their CVs
  • Industry connections and improved employability outcomes

RAKI ON HER HEARST INTERNSHIP

As part of her internship with Hearst, Raki was tasked with designing a set of unique illustrations as part of an editorial concept for Cosmopolitan magazine:

This was my favourite project to work on as I got to illustrate and had the challenge of matching an existing look and feel. The cool thing was that I was able to alter the existing style and was encouraged to follow my own instincts and visual preferences. The most interesting aspect of the project was finding the perfect balance stylistically and also getting to talk to the Art Director of Cosmo about them. It gave the project a real dimension.”
